Safari in Jim Corbett Park

The Complete Guide For Safari in Jim Corbett Park

Jim Corbett is a huddle of different mammals; it has nestled various beautiful bird species and a picturesque landscape. This national park spread across 502 kms (approx.) is located in Uttarakhand. The reserve was established in 1936 and was earlier known as Hailey National Park.

There are a lot of things that one can do in this park; bird watching, adventure sports, fishing, angling, and paying a visit to the Girija temple are a few of them. Still, safari has a place of its own in the eyes of the visitors. Even if they have no idea of what they will be doing in the park, they know that they are going to stay in one of Corbett National Park resorts and enjoy Safari.

So, in this blog, we give you information about the same. Broadly speaking, there are three kinds of Safaris for wildlife enthusiasts; they are –

  • Jeep Safari
  • Canter Safari
  • Elephant Safari

In our opinion, elephant safari is nothing less than animal cruelty. So, let’s focus on the other two safaris.

Best Corbett Zones to Enjoy Safari-

One zone is around the outskirts of the reserve, and other 5 are in the park itself. Bijrani and Dhikala are among the popular ones while Jhirna is the only zone that remains open all the year. Other zones remain closed in September end and mid June.

Bonus Tip: If you are a nature lover, you may want to consider another small sanctuary near Jim Corbett, Sitabani. It is known for the beautiful landscape it encompasses. The best season for tourism here is between October to June.

Please note that for safari, you require permit. The permits are of two kinds- A day permit, and Forest rest house permit. The day permit can be taken right at the entrance of the reserve and the permit for latter can be owned online by placing a request or while doing a booking.

Safari Occupancy and Availability-
Jeep Safari is available in every zon but the canter safari is available only in Dhikala. Moreover, only two canters are allowed in Dhikala at a time. The canters can occupy 16 people while a jeep can occupy only 6. While selecting the jeep safari, one must make a choice. Tell them if you want safari for birdwatching or for seeing tigers.

Timings for Safari-
You should go for safari early morning. At this time, there are high chances of the mammals flocking around and birds flying and chirping with joy. At noon, most of the animals are resting, so you will have a hard time spotting them in the park. Evening time can be considered better than noon. Safaris give you complete tour in 3 hours.
