Ladakh Inner Line Permit

What is Inner line permit?

It is a significant travel document which entitles an Indian or foreign national for traveling in a protected area for a fixed time period and is issued by the Government of India. Only residents of Jammu and Kashmir state are free to roam around the locations of Leh Ladakh without an Innerline permit. It is quite mandatory for those who travel to Ladakh to carry the document of Innerline permit.

Why is it important?

Earlier Inner line permit was not required for Indian nationals. But a gigantic rise in traffic to the areas of Leh Ladakh and related security concerns paved the way for the need to make it mandatory for Indian nationals as well. Inner line permit is a mandatory document and is highly helpful in regulating movement in those regions of the country which are located on international borders of the country(India). This is a strict security measure and is mandatory for the movement in the areas of Leh Ladakh.

The mandatory need for Innerline permit came into effect from April 2017. Ladakhi Government even announced for charging a sum of 400 rupees under the head of Environment Fees from all the tourists visiting the territory of Ladakh.
